Companies run year-end reviews. Professional athletes run year-end reviews. Your money absolutely deserves one. Put 45 minutes in the calendar between Christmas and New Year's Eve, grab a drink, and answer these twelve questions. Most of them Plan! will answer for you in the Spotify-style yearly report.
The twelve questions
- How did my net worth change, in dollars and percent?
- What were my top five expense categories, ranked?
- What percentage of my take-home did I save?
- How many of my January goals did I actually hit?
- What was my single biggest-waste purchase?
- Where did I beat my own budget (green months)?
- Where did I blow past it (red months) and why?
- How many months of expenses do I now have in emergency savings?
- What is my highest-interest debt balance, and is it going up or down?
- How did inflation (real vs nominal) affect my trajectory?
- What one habit do I want to change in the new year?
- What one reward will I give myself for last year's wins?
Net worth: the headline number
Pull two screenshots: January 1 net worth and December 31 net worth. Subtract. The delta is the honest scoreboard. If the number is positive and bigger than your realized investment returns, you saved. If it is positive but smaller, the market carried you. If it is negative, this is the review that saves you. Plan!'s Net Worth dashboard keeps monthly snapshots for exactly this purpose.
Plan!'s yearly report
Every December, Plan! generates a Spotify-style yearly report: a vertical-scroll story with your total spend, top categories, biggest single purchase, best savings month, longest streak of on-budget days, and which goals you completed. You can screenshot any page and share it. Most people find two or three surprises per report.
- Open Plan! between December 26 and January 3. A banner at the top shows "Your 2026 Wrapped".
- Tap to open; swipe through 8 story cards.
- Tap the share icon to save the summary card to Photos.
- Answer the twelve questions using the report plus the Net Worth dashboard.
People who run an annual financial review are 3.1x more likely to hit next year's savings goal than people who do not. 45 minutes, once a year.
The biggest-waste moment
Everyone has one. The $540 gadget that lived in a drawer, the destination wedding that ended the friendship, the 2024-vintage NFT. Write it down. Not to shame yourself; to remember the texture of the mistake. Humans forget financial pain inside six months; an annual review re-inoculates you.
Set three goals for the new year
Three, not twelve. One savings goal, one debt goal, one habit change. Put them in Plan! on January 1 as Savings, Debt and Expense goals with milestones at 25%, 50%, 75%. Add widgets to your home screen. Review monthly. The 45 minutes you spent in December compound into a 12-month map.
